ricorda che dopo aver modificato il lilo.conf devi lanciare /sbin/lilo da root per rendere effettive le modifiche

...mmm... dopo qualche giorno in cui non ho avuto molto tempo da dedicare a Linux, torno alla carica del pinguino... ora: il problema grosso è la connessione internet! Una volta che funziona giuro che non vi romperò più le scatole...

Allora, in fase di installazione ho configurato la connessione a internet: connessione adsl PPPoE... mi ha installato il pacchetto per il pppoe (appunto)... e poi mi ha chiesto provider, username, DNS, ecc... e mi ha detto che la connessione era stata completata.

Ora: ho senz'altro messo dentro dei dati un po' a caso. Nel senso, che - a parte username e password, di cui sono sicuro - gli altri dati li ho lasciati all'intuito del sistema (del resto mi diceva che erano dati opzionali)... ho inserito come provider aliceposta.it... sbagliando, senza alcun dubbio, in quanto all'avvio del sistema (dopo il login), mi dice qualcosa tipo che a Gnome non sta simpatico aliceposta.it e di dare un occhio al file host.conf per risolvere la situazione.

Ho capito di aver sbagliato a inserire il provider (cosa devo mettere??) e ho dato un occhio a host.conf... ma mi sembra un po' vuoto:

Il programma per il pppoe e' per caso rp-pppoe?
In questo caso le uniche cose che devi specificare sono (con il comendo adsl-setup):
-nome utente:
-la scheda a cui e' attaccato il modem (penso eth0)
-i dns (l'opzione server funziona benissimo)
- la password

Ops... avevo sbagliato: host.conf non c'entra... c'entrava invece hosts.

Comunque anche con adsl-setup sembra andare tutto a meraviglia... ma non poi non riesco a navigare!

Allora, ultima cosa, dimmi che ti dice il comando route.

La mia idea e' che l'adsl-start abbia scazzato qualcosa nel settare i parametri di rete, e che quindi non ti abbia impostato ne' i namserver (il dns NON deve essere interno alla tua rete, dev'essere qualcosa di tin.it) ne' il default gateway. Domanda sciocca: l'adsl-start l'hai lanciato da root, vero?

Direi che non e' normale per nulla!!! soprattutto la riga che dice
default 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0
che significa che il traffico viene buttato verso l'ip 192.168.1.1 (e' una macchina che esiste?)

prova con un :

route del default
route add default gw 192.168.100.1 (cioe' l'altro lato della connessione point"point pppp0)
e vedi se cosi' pinga gli ip.

aliceposta.it e' diventato il nome che tu hai dato alla tua macchina, che non c'entra nulla con l'adsl (per esempio la mia macchina server e' penny.solaria.net ) Il nome di una macchina linux di solito si compone di un'hostname (penny) e un domainname(solaria.net).
Per fixare la cosa, modifica il file /etc/hostname
