NOBEL PER LA PACE: BUSH, BLAIR E UE TRA I CANDIDATI 2004
(AGI) - Oslo, 2 feb. - Il presidente degli Stati Uniti, George W. Bush, e il premier britannico, Tony Blair, da una parte; l'Unione europea, dall'altra, sono tra i candidati al premio Nobel per la Pace 2004. Le candidature di Bush e di Blair sono state formalizzate dal deputato norvegese Jan Simonsen e lo stesso parlamentare ha spiegato in un comunicato che i due statisti meritano il riconoscimento per avere rovesciato il regime iracheno di Saddam Hussein.
La candidatura dell'Unione europea e' stata invece avanzata dall'ex premier e attuale ministro degli Esteri norvegese, Thorbjorn Jagland, il quale ritiene che debba essere riconosciuto il ruolo dell'Ue a favore della pace con l'imminente ampliamento a Est.
Nell'ultimo giorno utile per la presentazione delle candidature il direttore del Comitato Nobel, Geir Lundestad, ha detto che sono state numerosissime le proposte ricevute, ma non ha precisato ne' quante ne' quali.
Come e' tradizione il Nobel per la Pace e' nominato a ottobre e il premio e' consegnato il 10 dicembre, anniversaio della morte di Alfred Nobel. Nel 2003 e' stato assegnato all'iraniana Schirin Ebadi, avvocato impegnata in prima linea nella difesa dei diritti umani. E' stata la prima donna musulmana ad aggiudicarsi il prestigioso premio.
