Ah per il prodotto vettoriale esiste l'operatore comunque

In renderman opera solo su variabili di tipo punto e restituisce un valore di tipo punto (array tridimensionale).
Di conseguenza si comprende il perchè è giusto definire il vettore come (x,y,z)
Passando alla teoria, di quanto ho capito:
Mettiamo che il nostro punto P sia P(1,2)

PHP:

z       P(1,2)
|        *
|      /
|    /
|  /
|/______ x


(E' una pessima rappresentazione ma è giusto per far comprendere)

Il prodotto vettoriale di P per il vettore (1,0,0) ossia l'asse delle x, risulta la proiezione di P sull'asse delle z.
PHP:

z       P(1,2)
*--------*
|      /
|    /
|  /
|/______ x


Di conseguenza otteniamo una distanza tra la proiezioni del vettore e P che rappresenta la fascia entro cui deve stare la trasparenza della sfera.
PHP:

z       P(1,2)
*--------*
|      /|
|    /  |
|  /    |
|/______|_ x


In linea di fondo questo è quello che ho capito dopo lunghe ore di calcoli e matrici.
Se riesco a concludere qualcosa di definitivo poi scrivo!

EDIT:
Comunque mi sono messo a usare le matrici perchè all'inizio pensavo di fare la rotazione attraverso il rotate2d lungo i tre assi ma così mi pare più corretto e molto più semplice
