 [NERD]Linux Router

Mi sono deciso a dedicare un P2 a fare da router linux + server mail, web, ftp, piattaforma di test SQL e chi piú ne ha piú ne metta.
In particolare la questione router mi da peró l'idea di complicato, qualcuno lo ha gia fatto? ho installato RedHat 8.0

Mi sono deciso a dedicare un P2 a fare da router linux + server mail, web, ftp, piattaforma di test SQL e chi piú ne ha piú ne metta.


Della serie poco niente! :)

In particolare la questione router mi da peró l'idea di complicato, qualcuno lo ha gia fatto? ho installato RedHat 8.0


A dir la verita' potrebbe essere il contrario, specie se vuoi mettere qualche servizio (WEB) visibile all'esterno in questo caso non puoi trascurare la sicurezza del web server altrimenti magari dopo poco tempo.......

Comunque se non hai mai implementato un router sotto linux controlla i man di:

iptables
route

ed al volume numero 3 di Appunti di Informatica Libera, tanto per iniziare.

Comincia da Appunti di Informatica Libera.

Comunque se non hai una buona esperienza nel campo della sicurezza io se fossi in te non metterei quella macchina connessa a Internet. Almeno fino a quando non avrai messo un buon firewall (con iptables). Ma questo probabilmente lo sapevi gia' vero? :)

Se fossi in te cmq io userei free BSD invece di RH...anche se i comandi sono un pelo più incasinati.
Router e server mail li ho già fatti per un'azienda...anche webmail ma è proprio facilissimo,con lo squirrelmail.
Il router non è complicato,segui le istruzioni :)

Non ho mai usato FreeBSD (anche se ho un vecchio PC e devo decidere cosa farci), che differenze ci sono tra FreeBSD e una Slackware ad esempio?

che io sappia BSD é piú lento ma piú stabile.. confermate?

EDIT: Piú lenta non é il termine azzeccato.. se non sbaglio rimane indietro con le evoluzioni kernel in cambio di un sistema piú stabile

Io pensavo di installare allora OpenBSD ma quello che mi interessa e' il lato sicurezza, ho sentito parlare molto bene di OpenBSD in fatto di stabilita' e sicurezza, confermate?

ho risolto il problema.. a dire il vero in maniera inattesa.
M hanno regalato un modem ADSL Dual Link della 3Com che ho convertito tramite un update firmware (cosa non si trova in rete) in un router 3Com 812.
Personal Firewall su ogni PC e fine dei problemi... almeno la macchina linux fa da piattaforma di test e basta.. :D
