 creazione stringa di lunghezza arbitraria

Come posso fare a creare una stringa di lungehzza arbitraria? ovvero devo creare una stringa senza definire la sua lunghezza con una malloc, in quanto la sua lunghezza può essere di qualsiasi lunghezza!

E' impossibile quello che chiedi. Sarebbe come chiedere di avere infinita memoria :D

forse mi sono spiegato male :) la malloc bisogna farla.... solo che il problema e che se faccio una malloc di 10 ma poi devo leggere una stringa d 30 caratteri come faccio? la soluzione dovrebbe essere una realloc, ma volevo avere altre idee, praticamente devo fare una stringa lunga quanta la parola letta da input
